Planet SKS Apartment in Mangalore Through Curves Storage and Layered Lighting

Planet SKS is a three-bedroom apartment in Kadri, Mangalore, designed by Black Pebble Designs. The 3,300 sq ft home, completed in 2024, brings together sculptural furniture, bespoke joinery and layered lighting. Its character comes from the relationship between these elements: curves appear in several rooms, storage becomes part of the interior composition, and individual bedroom palettes sit within a connected contemporary home.

A shared language of curves

The living room introduces the apartment's sculptural vocabulary through curved seating and soft-edged furniture. These forms sit alongside a dark vertical feature wall and open display shelving. The combination creates a contrast between the softness of the furniture and the stronger lines of the surrounding surfaces. Rather than relying on a single decorative object, the room establishes its character through the way furniture, backdrop and display areas work together.

The television wall continues this theme with illuminated curves. Arched openings provide another expression of the same idea, creating a visual connection between the entrance and living spaces. Repeating a shape in different applications can help an interior feel related without making every element identical. At Planet SKS, the curve is expressed through furniture, openings and wall details, giving the shared areas a recognisable design language.

Connecting living and dining

The living and dining areas have an open, connected arrangement. An oval dining table carries the soft geometry into the dining space, while artwork and full-height curtains add further layers to the setting. Warm neutrals, timber tones and blue-grey accents provide continuity across the apartment. These recurring colours and forms allow different elements to remain distinctive while belonging to the same overall composition.

For someone studying the project, the useful lesson is to look beyond individual furniture selections. The relationship between the dining table, seating, curtains and surrounding cabinetry matters as much as the appearance of any one piece. A connected living and dining area can be considered as a whole, with each zone contributing to the atmosphere of the other.

Cabinetry as part of the design

Bespoke cabinetry integrates storage into the apartment's visual composition. Open display shelving provides space for selected objects, while fitted wardrobes and the kids study address practical needs in the private rooms. This balance between what is visible and what is contained gives storage a role beyond simply adding cupboard capacity.

The master bedroom wardrobe includes rattan inserts, introducing a different texture within the joinery. Across a home, details such as these can help distinguish one storage element from another without abandoning a consistent palette. The project offers a way to think about cabinetry as part of a room's character, rather than as a separate item added after the rest of the design is complete.

Bedrooms with individual identities

The three bedrooms do not repeat a single decorative scheme. In the guest bedroom, dark fluted surfaces and a circular feature bring depth to the composition. The kids bedroom takes a softer direction through blush tones, an arched headboard and botanical details. The master bedroom introduces timber cabinetry and blue accents, giving it another distinct mood within the apartment.

These differences show how a home can accommodate varied room identities. Continuity does not require identical colours or feature walls in every space. A shared attention to shape, texture and fitted furniture can connect rooms while allowing each to develop its own expression. The kids study and bedroom storage also keep everyday use present alongside the decorative treatment.

Carrying detail into smaller spaces

The kitchen pairs warm lower cabinetry with darker upper units and light worktops. Elsewhere, a carved pooja niche, rounded bathroom mirrors and a planted master bedroom balcony extend the attention to detail beyond the main living area. These spaces matter to the overall reading of the apartment because they continue the conversation between practical use and visual character.

Planet SKS demonstrates a cohesive approach to a contemporary apartment through a set of recurring design decisions. Curves soften the shared spaces, cabinetry brings function into the composition, and lighting highlights selected architectural details. The result is best understood as a sequence of connected rooms with distinct identities, rather than a collection of isolated features.
