How Coconut Oil Improved My Hair and Scalp Naturally

For a very long time, I struggled with a dry scalp and hair that did not feel as soft or manageable as I wanted. I kept admiring people with naturally soft, shiny and healthy-looking hair, and I wondered whether I could attain the same results without using complicated and expensive hair products.

I think I should mention that my biggest inspiration was actually my mum. She constantly used coconut oil on her hair, and I noticed that her hair always glistered, felt soft and well moisturized all the time. equally, her scalp looked soft and healthy, and she hardly complained about dandruff. I admired and loved her beautiful hair and had a big desire of knowing whether coconut oil could do exactly the same for me.

How I Started Using Coconut Oil

It did not take too long before I decided to start using my mom’s coconut hair oil on my own hair after bathing. At first, I did not want her to notice that I was using her coconut hair oil on my hair. I would lightly apply the coconut oil to my scalp and hair while they were still slightly moisturized after my bath.

I must say that at first, I was a little skeptical, I thought it was possibly not going to work. On the same note, I did not see magical results immediately, but I went on to use it constantly without expecting miracles.

And indeed, the results were slow, but they were amazing to say the least.

In a span of time, my scalp began feeling more hydrated and comfortable. My hair also became noticeably softer when I ran my fingers through it. Also, combing my hair turned out to be relatively easier, and I no longer struggled as much with tangled hair.

I specifically loved having an afro-kinky style because my hair became easier to comb and manage. The coconut oil seemed to help my hair feel smoother while keeping my scalp moisturized.

When I Started Seeing the real Difference

After using coconut hair oil, a natural remedy, for roughly about two or three weeks, I began noticing a bigger difference. Even better, my friends started asking me what I had done to my hair.

My friends’ compliments made me feel really good, particularly when we went to church together. I felt more confident in me because my hair looked healthier, softer and glitterier.

I guess I should say that as a young man, having well-maintained hair also boosted my self-esteem. I enjoyed all the attention that I was getting from friends and the compliments they gave me, of course, from ladies who noticed my soft, shiny afro-kinky hair.

For me, coconut hair oil ended up to be a simple part of my hair-care routine.

Benefits of Coconut Oil for Hair and Scalp

Coconut oil is for the longest time used in hair care and even widely because it can aid in conditioning the hair and reducing the feeling of scalp and  hair dryness. Potential benefits include:

Moreover, it is good to note that everyone's hair and scalp can respond differently to coconut hair oil.

Risks of Using Coconut Oil

I must point out that Coconut oil is not necessarily fit for everyone. Some people may experience scalp irritation, skin or scalp itching, redness or clogged pores after using oils, such as coconut oil.

Equally, using too much oil can leave the hair greasy and may cause oil or dirt buildup on the scalp. People with sensitive skin or a history of reactions or allergies to cosmetic or topical/natural products should be specifically careful.

In the case that you develop persistent itching, burning, redness, swelling, exceeding flaking or other uncommon symptoms in your scalp or skin, stop using the product immediately and seek professional advice.

My Coconut Oil Disclosure

My experience with coconut oil is personal and must not be taken as a guarantee that everyone will reach the same results. What worked well for my hair and scalp may not work the same way for you.

Before using coconut oil extensively, take into account performing a small patch test on a specific part of your skin first and monitor for irritation or an allergic reaction. Use a clean, suitable product and avoid applying excessive amounts of coconut hair oil.

For me, coconut oil was a gentle finding that helped transform how my hair felt and looked. From a dry-feeling scalp and difficult-to-comb hair, I slowly experienced softer, shinier and more manageable hair—and the confidence that came with it.
